Working in conjunction with Education Connections, a leading educational marketing agency, we were asked by Asthma UK to explore the types of self-management resources, children aged 8-11-years-old would prefer to enable them to manage their asthma more effectively.

Two stages of research were undertaken involving a combination of discussion groups and interviews with children, within the age range, with a geographical spread across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. From the initial research we looked at designing three distinctly different sets of material - illustrative, photographic and using the brand's existing Kick-A Crew characters. We also provided one route in three different formats to explore different content and reward/reminder systems in order to identify the best way forward during the second stage of the research.

From the research findings, we identified the optimum mix of design and format to our resource materials and these will be piloted in GP surgeries throughout the UK this year.
